A Message from the Pastor- July 7, 2022

City of Garner, Sunday School Book Distribution, Graduation Sunday, Youth Weekend

    Hi Springfield,

I was watching the weather report today. When it’s this hot, we all pay close attention to the weather report. The weatherman said the next two weeks are normally the two hottest weeks of the entire year. The truth is, it’s very hot and humid outside. Those who work outside are being advised to drink lots of fluids and stay hydrated. If you don’t drink enough, you’ll find yourself dry and thirsty. In the same way, if we don’t drink enough of the water of God’s word, we’ll end up thirsty and dry. Today and everyday let’s be like the psalmist in Psalm 42 … “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

    CITY OF GARNER MEETING

Calling all residents of Garner, NC. There’s an important meeting tonight at the Garner Senior Center from 6pm to 7pm. This meeting is being called to discuss and give input on the plans for Rand Road and Jones Sausage Road. Make sure your voice is heard in the process.

    SUNDAY SCHOOL BOOK DISTRIBUTION

After weeks of waiting, the Sunday School books have arrived. Thank you so much for your patience in this process. The books will be passed out this Saturday from 11am to 1pm in the church parking lot. Thank you to our Christian Education team for helping with the distribution.

    GRADUATION SUNDAY

Graduation Sunday is this coming Sunday, July 10th at 10am. We are looking forward to recognizing both our 2022 high school and college graduates. All graduates are asked to arrive no later than 9:30am to prepare for the service. I am also asking all members to donate $25 to the Scholarship Ministry on this day to support future scholarship recipients. There will also be a brief reception after service in the MPC to congratulate our graduates. I want to thank God for our Scholarship Ministry and for all their work in helping to recognize our graduates.

    YOUTH WEEKEND

Youth weekend is coming up Saturday, July 16th and Sunday, July 17th.  In preparation youth choir rehearsal will be July 9th at 10am; Thursday, July 14th at 7pm and Saturday, July 16th at 10:30am. On Saturday, July 16th we’re asking all youth ages 13 to 17 and adults to come out at 9am as we clean our stretch of Auburn Knightdale Road. After choir rehearsal that morning, we’ll have a fun outing for our youth at Dave & Busters in Cary that you don’t want to miss. Also, I am designating Sunday, July 18th “Sneaker Sunday” for our 10am worship. I’m asking all youth, and anyone else who wants to be a part, to wear white shirts, jeans, and your best pair of sneakers as we worship God together. There are several other surprises that you don’t want to miss. Rev. Dr. Kia Hood-Scott will be our special guest preacher. Parents make plans now to have your children in attendance.

    LOOK AHEAD/QUICK REMINDERS

    • The Economic Empowerment Ministry is hosting a professional branding workshop on Saturday, July 23rd aimed at ages 16 to 35. This online and in-person opportunity will allow those involved to learn the power of professionalism and networking. More details to come.

    • Springfield is still a COVID-19 testing site through our partnership with Mako Medical. PCR testing is Monday through Friday 9am to 4pm.
