A Message from the Pastor - June 18, 2020

Virtual VBS details, Father's Day and Juneteenth

    Hi Springfield,

It’s Thursday which means it’s time for another email blast from Pastor. In times like these I’m grateful for the words of scripture. Proverbs 15:3 says in the Message version, “God doesn’t miss a thing – He’s alert to good and evil alike.” What a powerful promise at a time like this. I’m glad God doesn’t miss a thing. He sees what you’re going through. He sees what you’re struggling with. He sees who is for you and who is against you. God doesn’t miss a thing!

    VIRTUAL VBS

One thing we don’t want you to miss is our Virtual VBS Thursday, June 25th & Friday, June 26th. VBS is moving to ZOOM this year. This year’s theme is: “VBS 2020 New Beginnings: Many People Anchored Together in One Lord.” Although we have scaled back the number of classes that will be offered, we invite you to be a part of VBS. You will need to register on our church website to attend. Our children and youth class will begin at 6pm and our adult class will begin at 7pm.

This year’s VBS will culminate with a parking lot picnic on Saturday, June 27th beginning at noon. As you know, one of the biggest parts of VBS is the tradition of being able to have a fellowship meal together. Our parking lot picnic will allow us to do this in a new and unique way. A lunch will be provided. Participants will be encouraged to park in the parking lot, REMAIN IN YOUR CARS, listen to some good Gospel music, and enjoy a time of fellowship while staying socially distanced.

    FATHER’S DAY

Allow me the opportunity to wish all of the fathers a very Happy Father’s Day. We celebrate all the godly fathers in our lives; especially the ones who remind us of our Heavenly Father. Make sure you treat those “fathers” in your life nice on Sunday.

    JUNETEENTH

Tomorrow is Juneteenth. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, TX to share the news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Even though the news came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the news set forth celebrations that continue to this day. As we pause to remember Juneteenth tomorrow, please take time to reflect on the strength and courage of our forefathers and thank God for how far He has brought us from. Honestly, we still have a long way to go. Some might ask what do we do as we march toward freedom and justice for all?

Right now, what we do is … KEEP THE FAITH, STAY SAFE & WASH YOUR HANDS!

    Pastor
